Midweek Divine Service Summary – 8 / 9 January 2020

Divine Service Summary – Wednesday, 8 / Thursday, 9 January 2020

Title: Salvation appears

Bible verse: Matthew 2: 9–11

When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshipped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Message: In Jesus Christ we have access to salvation.

Summary:

The power of the evil one already reveals itself at the birth of Jesus. However, it cannot stand in the way of or change anything about the process of salvation.

  • The fact that the wise men from the East worship Jesus is an indication that all human beings have been incorporated into the plan of salvation.
  • Mary is a symbol of the church, in which we are to demonstrate steadfastness.
  • Gold is a reference that Jesus is King. Incense is a reference to Jesus as God, and myrrh is a reference to Jesus as a human being. Our worship is directed at Jesus Christ.
