Midweek Divine Service Summary
Midweek – Wednesday, 27 / Thursday, 28 February 2019
Title: Self-recognition
Bible verse: Luke 6: 42
How can you say to your brother, “Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,” when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye
Message: We must recognise ourselves as the sinners we are and seek grace.
Summary:
The Bible text describes the peculiar practice of minimising our own faults, but pointing out the supposed faults of our neighbour. Let us therefore:
- repent as David did.
- adopt the attitude of the tax-collector.
- apply a healthy dose of self- criticism without tearing ourselves to pieces in the process.
