Sunday 10th September marked Teachers day in China. In China, teachers are highly respected and the teaching profession held in high esteem. It is very similar to the way, we, as Christians, esteem Jesus, as the greatest spiritual teacher of all times.
As Teachers Day fell on a Sunday, students already eagerly presented their gifts, flowers, gift baskets, etc. to their teachers on Friday. All of us have been taught by someone and are also capable of being a teacher to others.
Yes, not everyone teaches us in the classroom. Sometimes it’s a parent teaching us how to pray or ride a bike. On other occasions it’s a friend showing us how to play a game or build a tree house.
Teachers are special
A teacher is a very special person, someone that everyone looks up to and ultimately has great influence on the lives of many.
When we think of Jesus, he too was called “Teacher”. In fact, in the 
gospels, Jesus was referred to as “Teacher” 60 (sixty) times. This was also what the disciples called Him. In the book of John, Jesus speaks of himself as a teacher: “You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am” (John 13:13).
Jesus taught multitudes with great authority.
“For He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.” (Matthew 7:29) Jesus taught the world. He did what no other teacher has ever done. Jesus taught wherever He went, in synagogues, temples and even on boats.
“And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the people from the boat.” (Luke 5:3)
“And He began teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all.” (Luke 4:15)
There are also many other bible texts that makes reference to Jesus being a teacher
“When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.” (Mark 6:34)
“Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.” (2 John 1:9)
During His teachings, Jesus was always resolute in everything He said because He stood in the stead of His Father. “So Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.” (John 7:16)
The Great Commission
During His last instruction to His disciples Jesus instructed them to:
“Go ye into all the world and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19 ).
His final command was a teaching command. A wonderful command that is still today a great blessing and teaching to us all.
A teaching of love that should be shared and professed to all.
