Title: The afflictions of the Christian
Text verse: 2 Corinthians 4: 17–18
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Message:
Jesus Christ comforts those who suffer for His sake.
Summary:
Every disciple of Jesus must suffer persecutions. These are primarily of a spiritual nature.
Our afflictions consist of
- the temptations of the evil one.
- the call to deny ourselves.
- the disappointment we feel over those who do not reciprocate our love.
- sadness over those who reject Jesus’ offer of redemption.
We are capable of enduring our affliction because Jesus makes intercession for us before God.
