Title: The redemptive power of the sacraments

Text verse: 1 John 5: 7–8

For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one

Message: Sacraments have their source in Christ, and lead us to salvation in God.

Summary:

  • The first epistle of John defends true belief in Christ against heresies by emphasising the unconditional effect of baptism and the sacrificial death of Jesus for salvation as attested by the Holy Spirit.
  • The three sacraments have their source in Christ and are a fundamental gift of God’s grace. If we consciously obtain the salvation at work in the sacraments it will have effects for our life as a whole
